Selwyn District is becoming the place to be for living and investing in Canterbury, holding the title as the fastest-growing territorial authority area, increasing more than 30% to 44,595 people, the 2013 census shows.

Growth occurred throughout the district, but the lion’s share was in the “commuter belt”, close to Christchurch. This high-growth area includes West Melton, Rolleston, Lincoln, Springston, Prebbleton and many rural “lifestyle blocks” and is addressed by the Greater Christchurch Urban Development Strategy.
